Third Party & Internet Sales

Funeral merchandise can now be purchased at many locations, either from a door-to-door salesman, the internet, or even your local bulk goods store. Misleading information offered to the public has allowed many individuals to believe that funeral homes predatorily price caskets and vaults to take advantage of grieving consumers. This is false.

The price of funeral home merchandise is dictated primarily by the manufacturer of that merchandise. Those factors are the same as the cost of any other item purchased for any other reason. Prices do steadily rise over the years, but that’s inflation. We, as any other business, or any other individual for that matter, are victims of that same economic phenomenon.

Third party and internet casket sales do offer an alternative, but here is how they often do it. Caskets are manufactured overseas and/or are purchased in mass quantities. They are of unguaranteed quality, come from unregulated materials and limit any personalization options that are usually made available by funeral directors. What you see is what you get. Bekavac Funeral Homes purchases caskets from a number of different vendors, but all of our caskets are made in the United States. In fact, many of them are made in Pennsylvania. Matthews-Aurora Funeral Solutions, based on Liberty Avenue in Dormont and Schuylkill Havenline, based in New Wilmington, PA, are just two examples of how our money is reinvested back into our own economy.

When merchandise must be selected for a funeral at Bekavac Funeral Home, it is shown by one of our licensed funeral directors. These directors have the proper knowledge and can easily answer questions about styles, colors, materials and additional options. We firmly believe that educated consumers are more likely to select merchandise which best suits their own individual needs and financial situation. Can a bulk store or online distributor say that the checkout clerk knows this information?

When selecting a casket, our sales approach is very simple. We are here to explain why some caskets are more expensive than others. Most often, we walk the family around our casket display room, explain various options and then excuse ourselves while these selections are being made. This allows all of our families private time to make a very personal decision. Would any commissioned salesperson be said to be that low pressure?
