The family has had a rock taken from the foundation of the family, Uncle Harry Opher. We fill the space left with happy memories to plug it up. To relieve the grief, loss and learning to walk our path without him being there. My memories of him started when I was quite young visiting my Grandmother Shoemaker and he was dating Aunt Nelda, she would make him tomatoe and onion sandwiches. Then how handsome he was at their wedding. I called him Uncle Wow then. He was quietly humorous with one liners that were funny. We dug up two red bud trees and while being told we had broken a law by being on State property, he was standing behind me, pointing at me,, later when he asked how the trees were doing, I told him his had come with a hearty poison ivy plant. Oh he said, you found it? His first horseback ride was great and he did good, the next day, however, muscles that were never used were so sore. He took the chiding and blamed the horse. We could never get him to play cards at Mom's. He would sit int he rocking chair behind Aunt Nelda and kibitz and keep conversation lively. His opening line as he came in the door to Mom, was Helen, you going to cook me a 'Chook"? (Chicken) Mom would say, you catch me a chook and i will cook it Harry. The smiles would start along with fun repartees. He will be so missed. He was loved, and we need to plug the absence with happy memories. He would want that. And to see friends and family as much as possible. Make it happen. Make good memories.
