Harry C. Opfer, Sr.

Harry C. Opfer, Sr., age 90, of Elizabeth Township, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at home. He was a retired custodian with the Elizabeth Forward School District, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Bethesda United Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, and he enjoyed woodworking and crafts. Born March 28, 1927 in Elizabeth Twp., he was a son of the late George and Sarah (Harrison) Opfer. He is survived by his wife, Nelda M. (Shoemaker) Opfer; daughters, E. Gayle (Emil) Sujeta of Elizabeth Twp. and Cynthia L. (Matthew) Mayersky of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Harry C. (Tamma) Opfer, Jr. of Belle Vernon; five grandchildren, Alan, Amanda, Melanie, Ashley and Amber; one great-granddaughter, Maranda; brother, Ralph (Janice) Opfer of Riverview, MI; sister, Doris Kerchner of Kansas; also nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Theodore, John and Howard Opfer and a sister, Luella M. “Sis” Opfer. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 10 AM until the hour of service at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Walt Pietschmann officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
