John R. Bender Sr.

John R. Bender Sr., age 82, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017. He retired after 30 years as an operator for Port Authority in Pittsburgh and was a member of the Transit Authority Union #85. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in White Oak. Born January 14, 1935 in Glassport, he was a son of the late John W. and Myrtle Christine (Detman) Bender and husband of the late Barbara (Helsel) Bender. He is survived by daughters, Pamela (Dale) Khuns of North Huntingdon, Penny (Mark) Patrick of Mt. Vernon, Elizabeth (Paul) Jamison of Albany, NY, and Mary Ann (Eric) Piper of Pleasant Hills; son, John R. Bender of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, Amanda Julian, Jared Bender, Evan and Stephen Patrick, Nathaniel, Ethan and Gwendolyn Jamison, and Caleb Piper; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene (Betty) Bender of Belle Vernon and Ronald (JoAnna) Bender of WY; also, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10 AM in Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Deborah Kociban officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.
