Nicholas Angelo Nero

Nicholas Angelo Nero, age 71 of Sumter, SC and formerly of Jefferson Borough, died at home August 8, 2023.  Born November 4, 1951, he was the son of the late Domenick Nero and Lucille (LaValle) Nero of Jefferson Borough.  Nick was a 1970 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a decorated veteran of 22 years in the United States Air Force. Nick was very active in American Legion Post 15 of Sumter serving as commander, adjutant, and historian as well as chairing the Sumter County Fair Commission hosted by Post 15.  As a member of the Sumter County Garden Club, he was a certified master gardener and helped beautify his community, Nick was also a member of the Clariton Anglers Club, where he spent much of his summer time with his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elaine; sisters Karen (Michael) Dougherty of Jefferson, Lori (James) Banner of Boise, ID, and Mary DiLonardo of Rostraver Twp.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  Funeral services and burial with military honors took place in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC.  Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 15, P.O.
