Melvin W. Long

Melvin W. Long, age 65 of Clairton, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  Born August 14, 1955 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Isaiah and Madeline (Graham) Long.  A graduate of South Allegheny High School and Pittsburgh Diesel Institute, Melvin spent many years  as an over-the-road truck driver.  He was also a former employee with Duquesne Slag and Riverlift in Elizabeth and spent his last ten years employed with LaFarge-Holcim in West Mifflin.  In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed fishing, watching his grandchildren play sports (especially football), attending parades watching his granddaughter as a majorette, and especially hosting Sunday family dinners.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, stepfather, brother, uncle, and a great friend.  Melvin is survived by his wife of thirty years Judith (Piasente) Long; his daughter Shayla of North Carolina; his stepchildren Randall (Ruth) Koontz of Donora, the late Anthony (Nicole) Koontz of Clairton, Christopher (Brenda) Koontz of Mt. Pleasant, and Brian (the late Erin) Koontz of Clairton; his siblings Marcella Kelton, Allen (Chris) Long, Glenda (Ben) Rainey, Ava Long, Angela (Yvonne) Long Beck, and Elaine Long; his grandchildren Krista, Bryson, Taafe, Morgan, and Taylor Koontz and Aaixa, Justen, Aiyah, Missouri, Furlando, and Oliviyah Long; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  Besides his stepson and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers David Long, James Long, Vincent Long, and Isaiah "Jake" Long, Jr..  Funeral arrangements for Melvin will be private at the request of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to a charity or organization of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements by the A.J.
