Casimir “Boe” Grodz, 72, of California, PA, formerly of Clairton, passed away on September 2, 2026.
Born on July 27, 1954, at McKeesport Hospital, Boe was a son of the late Casimir Grodz and Mary Sabol.
Boe lived a life centered around the people and passions he loved most. He was a sentimental man who treasured his family, friendships, and music. His passion for music began early and remained with him throughout his life. He performed with several local bands, including The Majestics, The DeVilles, and Sierra, which was at one time voted the top country band in the Pittsburgh area. He also ran sound and audio for numerous local musical acts, always eager to be involved in the music he loved.
Boe's career took him through many roles, beginning at the Clairton Coke Works and later including work as a local radio DJ on several stations and as a DJ for events. He also worked as an ice hockey referee and, in one memorable opportunity, even got to play a referee in a movie. He spent 35 dedicated years at the Rostraver Ice Garden.
In his later years, Boe's greatest joy was his grandchildren, Ally and Ian. He cherished opportunities to be part of their lives and especially loved attending their musical theatre performances and sporting events. He was immensely proud of them and loved to talk about their achievements.
Boe will be remembered by his children, Joseph (Danielle) Grodz of California, PA; Kevin Grodz of Jefferson Hills, PA; and Kelly (David) Stutzman of Washington, PA; grandchildren, Ally and Ian Grodz; nephew, Anthony (Stephanie) Schreck of Needville, TX; his dear friends and bandmates; and his granddog, Lillabet. In addition to his parents, Boe was preceded in death by his sisters, Sally Grodz, June (Grodz) Nigro, and Esther (Grodz) Schreck.
A passionate Pittsburgh sports fan, Boe was rarely seen without a Penguins, Pirates, or Steelers hat. His sentimental heart, love of music, and devotion to the people he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.
Services will be private. A celebration of Boe's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Boe's name to the Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy (MVPAA.com) to help continue music and performing arts education for local youth.
