Calvert E. Chesleigh

Calvert E. Chesleigh, 72, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born on December 18, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Cal was the beloved son of the late Calvert A. and Mary (McLain) Chesleigh. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he worked in computer programming, before dedicating many years of service as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. A lifelong member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Pleasant Hills, Cal lived a life defined by curiosity, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family.

Cal had an adventurous spirit that carried him across the country on his beloved motorcycle. He found joy exploring America's backroads, visiting the Badlands, national parks, and Native American reservations. Those travels sparked a lifelong appreciation for turquoise jewelry, bolo ties, and the rich cultures and landscapes he encountered along the way. Every trip became another story to tell and another memory to cherish.

He also found great happiness in the arts. Whether attending a Broadway show, a local play, or a musical in downtown Pittsburgh, Cal rarely went alone. He loved sharing those experiences with family and friends, always buying an extra ticket so someone he loved could enjoy the performance beside him. Among his favorite evenings were those spent listening to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, whose music brought him both peace and inspiration.

Some of his happiest moments were much simpler, camping with his children and grandchildren, sitting beneath the stars around a crackling campfire, and entertaining everyone with his legendary ghost stories. Those nights filled with laughter, suspense, and togetherness became treasured family traditions that will be remembered for generations.

Cal was a hardworking man whose sense of duty guided him throughout his life, but he also knew how to have fun. He was quick with a smile, loved singing karaoke, and never passed up the chance to gather with lifelong friends to debate politics, solve the world's problems, and share plenty of laughs along the way. His jovial spirit, sharp wit, and genuine enjoyment of good conversation made him someone people naturally wanted to be around.

Above all, Cal's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Calvert A. Chesleigh of Pittsburgh, Sarah (Eric) Campbell of Pittsburgh, John (Krista Margliotti) Chesleigh of Baldwin, and Emmet Chesleigh of McKeesport. He was an adoring grandfather to his cherished granddaughters, Millie and Mira Chesleigh, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.

He is also survived by his siblings, Maureen Mulligan, Bethie (Ed) Littlehale, Debbie Havrilla, Timothy (Kathleen) Chesleigh, and Lisa Lancaster, all of Pleasant Hills, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvert A. and Mary Chesleigh; his beloved son, James R. Chesleigh; and his brother, John David Chesleigh.

Cal lived a life of service, adventure, laughter, and love. Whether he was riding toward the next horizon, applauding a symphony, gathered around a campfire with family, or simply enjoying a spirited conversation with friends, he embraced each moment with enthusiasm and heart. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created, the values he instilled, and the love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Memorial Gathering will take place from 11 AM until a 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Pleasant Hills.  Arrangements by the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, Versailles.
