Effie M. (Sorg) Black

May 5, 1926 ~ February 14, 2019 (age 92)

Effie M. Black, age 92 of Liberty Borough, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  Born May 5, 1926 in Elizabeth, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Helen Margaret (Douglas) Sorg.  A former employee of Kaufmann's in Century III Mall and a member of the former Versailles Senior Citizens, Effie was an amazing and loving caregiver who was always willing to drive a friend to an appointment, babysit a grandchild, or generally lend a helping hand.  She loved animals, friends, but most of all her family.  Effie was preceded in death by her husband James B. Black, Jr., who passed away September 2, 1975, her daughter Paula Black, who passed away February 22, 1980, two of her grandchildren James B. Black, IV who passed away in 1993 and Daniel (Heather Shaffer) Brinkman, Jr. who passed away in 2003, and her brother John Paul Douglass.  She is survived by her children Carol (David) Kohl of Bethel Park, Jacquelyn Brinkman of Glassport, and James B. (Kit) Black, III of Lincoln Borough; her grandchildren Susan (Brian) Gorges, David C. Kohl, II, Christopher J. Kohl, Lisa Marie Terza, Jaime (Ray) Mays, Laurie (Jeff) Saccani, and Douglas (Jamie) and Greg Black; her great-grandchildren Phoebe, Molly, and Josie Gorges, Tyler Brinkman, Madison Mays, Lindsay Henderson, Ashley Saccani, and Lucas and Kendal Black; her sisters-in-law Harriet Douglass, Marion Black; ex-son-in-law Dan Brinkman and ex-daughter-in-law Janet Ertle; and also nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to Loretta Rotharmel, her caregiver and friend. Thanks also to Bailee, Effie's furry friend. Effie loved feeding the birds, watching her family bowl, JoAnn's hot roast beef sandwiches at the Carousel Marina, and any reason to take Baliee for a car ride. Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, Versailles, on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 10 AM with Rev. Jude Urso officiating.  Procession and burial will follow to Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.  Memorial contributions in Effie's name should be made to the Pet Adoption League, 150 Spring St., Yukon, PA 15698.
