William J. Trasp

William J. Trasp, age 90, of Irwin, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A retired boiler maker for U.S. Steel Clairton Works, he enjoyed metal detecting and finding arrowheads by the Monongahela River. He also liked playing cards at the Elrama Sportsmen's Club. Born July 11, 1926 in Lincoln Borough, he was a son of the late Frank and Grace (Blakley) Trasp and husband of the late Loretta Fern (Welch) Trasp. He is survived by daughter, Bonnie Popp of Irwin; son, William "Yogi" Trasp of Linesville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace Heckman of Elizabeth and Caroline "Cabby" Elliot of Riverhead, Long Island, NY; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sons, Thomas and James Trasp. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 12 Noon until the time of service at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roy A. Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
