Mervin A. Nurss

Mervin A. Nurss, age 77 of Greenock, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills.  Born March 12, 1940 in Meadville, he was a son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Livsey) Nurss.  A graduate of Edinboro University, Mervin worked for US Steel, where he was first a general supervisor of the industrial engineers at National Tube Works in McKeesport and later retired as the compensation manager in the human resources department in Pittsburgh.  He was also an active member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church, serving as its chairman of both its board of trustees and finance committee.  In his spare time, Mervin loved being either on the water or behind a wheel as a member of the Moraine Sailing Club, the US Albacore Association, the Porsche Club of America, and a former member of the US Yacht Racing Union.  He is survived by his wife of fifty years Janice (Werner) Nurss; his children Mervin A. "Rocky" (Shannon) Nurss of Moon Twp. and Leanne (Todd) Hockenberry of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren Abigail, Livia, and Jackson Hockenberry and Katherine and Elliana Nurss; his sister Lois Brown of Sebring, FL; and also nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, Versailles, on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11 AM in the funeral home with Rev. David Myers officiating.  Interment will be private.  Memorial contributions in Mervin's name should be made to the Elizabeth Baptist Church, 735 Bunola River Rd., Elizabeth, PA 15037.
